Excessive Water Intrusion in Fireplace Chimney Causing Efflorescence

During this home inspection in Newport, Maine, excessive moisture intrusion in the fireplace chimney caused the efflorescence seen here. Eventually, the excessive moisture will damage the mortar joints and brick. Needs to be cleaned and sealed with a masonry sealer.
